My name is Kristy De Bono, a proud Gunditjmara woman and contemporary Aboriginal artist creating on Gunditjmara Country in South-West Victoria.

KOKAIAR ART was born during the COVID-19 pandemic. Like many, I found myself spending more time at home, searching for a creative outlet using whatever materials I had around me. I didn't begin with a plan - I simply felt a deep longing for family, friends, our beaches, and the connection that comes from sitting together, sharing stories and yarning.

Growing up surrounded by artworks, I have always held a strong connection to Country, our waterways and the stories they carry. Watching my late father; James De Bono and Aunty Tanya create their own artworks became my greatest inspiration, encouraging me to explore my own creative journey. My late grandmother Judith White who held a talent for anything she put her mind to, including art works. 

Each piece I create is inspired by the stories that are shared with me. The places that I’ve travelled, the appreciation of the landscapes, waterways and relationships that have shaped my life. My artwork honours the strength of Aboriginal culture while embracing a contemporary style that reflects who I am today.

Every original painting and print is created with purpose, sharing stories of connection, resilience, healing and belonging. My hope is that each artwork finds a home where it is not only appreciated but becomes part of another person's journey and story.
